Camp Nana

Welcome to Camp Nana! Greetings Visitors, I’m Nana, and I run this show! As the family matriarch, I wanted to have an opportunity to stay connected with all of my grandchildren regardless of where their lives were taking them. More importantly, I wanted my grandkids to bond with each other so that they could learn, grow, and support each other over the years.

With a few foam mattresses, a big backyard, a swimming pool and a little creativity, Camp Nana was born. Camp is run by yours truly, and lasts for one week each summer. We get to have a fun, week long sleepover where we all learn and explore the world together through various activities all centered around a fun theme. Camp Nana’s 2017 theme is WATER! Every year, we have a detailed program for games, activities, crafts, gardenin, cooking, books and movies to go with the theme in camp. We learn about history (particularly of Brazil, Israel, Japan, and Texas), we learn greetings, songs and fun sentences in the languages that match our historical lessons, and we talk fun science!

The world is literally in my backyard at Camp Nana! My grandkids and I explore the nature in my yard by learning about gardening and plants, birds, insects, and rock-hunting. The little ones love this! In addition to outdoor exploration, make art, play games, home science experiments for more fun, all hands-on learning. Now, of course Camp don’t stop there! I’ve been around long enough to have plenty to teach my grandkids, which is why we also take time to learn about baking fun treats. There is a certain bond that comes with making a meal and then sitting down to eat it together.

It’s a game where everyone wins, and boy do these kids love winning when it comes to homemade cinnamon rolls and pizza! Even though I have a lot to teach, I can’t teach them everything. This is why for Camp Nana I also schedule visits from fun members of the community to teach them all about the other nifty things the world has to offer such as balloon-shaping, video and film making, music-making and journaling their experience! I believe that life is about learning, making memories, and supporting each other. That is what I want my kids to learn at Camp Nana, but all of the other stuff is fun too. As an artist myself, I know that creativity is the most useful tool there is when it comes to understanding others. On this site, I want you to take a look at the things we are making, and whether you use it or it just inspires you to do something of your own, I hope that you find a way to make it count.

Get the family together and tell them it’s time for camp!
